Watchfulness

By The Holy Spirit's Disciple, Raymond Laginess

WATCHFULNESS - A STATE OF SPIRITUAL ALERTNESS
PSALM 39:1...."I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me."

PSALM 102:7...."I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the housetop."

PSALM 119:9...."Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word."

PROVERB 4:23...."Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (25) Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. (26) Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established."

PROVERB 8:34...."Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors."

PROVERB 16:17...."The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul."

PROVERB 28:26...."He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."

 WATCHFULNESS REQUIRED IN:
Prayer....EPHESIANS 6:18...."Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."

Daily Living....I COR. 16:13...."Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."

Times of Testing....LUKE 21:34-36...."And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."

Waiting Christ's Return....MATT. 25:13...."Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." MARK 13:34-37...."For the son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore; for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at eve, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning; lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." Read MATT. 24:42-51

Overseeing of the Flock....ACTS 20:28-31...."Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departure shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears."

Our Words....PS. 141:3...."Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."

Darkness....LUKE 11:35...."Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness."

Covetousness....LUKE 12:15, 35-40...."And he said unto them, take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things he possesseth. Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh shall find watching; verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not."

Failure....HEBREWS 12:12.... "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled."

Temptation....MARK 14:38...."Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak."

REVELATION 3:2-3...."Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent.
