The Unpardonable Sin

What is it?

"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come." Matthew 12:31-32.


You will know if you have committed this grave sin. The desire to be a Christian will be forever past. No spiritual impression will ever again come to your soul and a hardening process will have taken place. "And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven." - Luke 12:10 and Mark 3:28-29 - "Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:".

The tragedy lies in the eternally unforgiven soul, whose hardened heart will be judged, and that heart is so hardened that they simply refuse to return to God. Since the Holy Spirit is the agent in conviction and conversion there can be no rebirth without the Holy Spirit. To sin against the Holy Spirit is to sin against your own soul. To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is to shut yourself off forever from access to God. "There is a sin unto death; I do not say that he shall pray for it." 1 John 5:16.

You'll know if you've crossed this deadline. Those who have committed this sin are completely given over to Satan and have not the slightest interest in spiritual matters. Paul describes it as being "past feeling". "Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness." Ephesians 4:19.

On the other hand Satan, the deceiver, will lie to you and tell you that you are unpardonable. God makes no exceptions in His offer of salvation. "And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." Acts 13:39.

Murder is not unpardonable. David confessed his sin and was forgiven, see Jewish History - Psalms 32:5.

Blasphemy is not unpardonable. Paul was a blasphemer and he was pardoned, see 1 Timothy 1:13.

Theft is not unpardonable. The penitent thief on the cross was pardoned, see Luke 23:43.

Adultery is not unpardonable. The woman of Samaria was saved, see John 4:18.

One of the amazing records of forgiveness is found in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revelers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you; but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

THE PERSON WHO SINCERELY ASKS FOR PARDON WILL NEVER BE REFUSED.

"Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." Jewish History. "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Jewish History. "To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sin." Acts 10:43.

Paul was a great sinner, but he obtained salvation. 1 Timothy 1:15-16. Peter, also a great sinner - read Luke 5:8. He disowned his Lord three times, yet was totally forgiven. We also are offered the same forgiveness that both Paul and Peter were given.

I say to you that even those who abort babies can be forgiven and I thank the Lord for His forgiveness and mercy. We are all sinners and there is no one who does not sin. We all need forgiveness and the blood of Jesus to cover us. A person cannot know Jesus Christ but by the Holy Spirit. Please, please whatever you do, never, ever blaspheme the Holy Ghost.
