Temptation

TEMPTATION OF CHRISTIANS BY:

Satan....LUKE 22:31,32...."And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not, and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."

Lust....ROMANS 6:12-14...."Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." JAMES 1:13-15...."Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil neither tempteth he any man; (14) but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (15) Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

World....I JOHN 2:15-17...."Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

Riches....I TIMOTHY 6:9-10...."But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Liability to Temptations....GAL. 6:1...."Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."

Warning against Temptations....MATT. 26:41...."Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." II PETER 3:17...."Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness."

Prayer against Temptation....MATT. 6:13...."And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Limitation of Temptation....I COR. 10:13...."There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

Grace sufficient for Temptation....II COR. 12:8.9...."For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that is might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Deliverance from Temptation....II PETER 2:9...."The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to the punished. HEBREWS2:18...."For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted." HEBREWS4:15,16...."For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come bodily unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."REV. 3:10...."Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth."

Resist Temptation....JAMES 4:7...."Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Purposes of Temptation....JAMES 1:5,6...."Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations." JAMES 1:2-4, 12-16...."My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man; but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren."
