God's Sword of Truth - The Word
“Don’t judge me - the Lord knows my heart”. These words do not give anyone the power to do as they please. Besides, it’s a cop-out to do one’s own thing, and, especially if we, as Christians, are doing something that is not according to what the Word teaches us to do. We just can’t do or think as WE please. People, do not be ignorant. “Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:” - Eph. 4:18 (Also, see 1 Peter 1:14).
Yes, the Lord does know the hearts of all men (Acts 1:24), but He knows the heart according to His Word. Our hearts must be willing to do His will, NOT our will - we do not have the right to do what we feel is right, but we MUST do and live what is written in His Word. Just look around at the many people who are living as they see fit, according to their own belief, and NOT according to the Words of Jesus: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. (Proverbs 23:7)Can you see where the source of evil in a man comes from? “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.” - Matt. 15:18.
Christianity is our life (our fruits) according to His Word. Our hearts must be as He states by His Word - “Ye shall know them by their fruits” - Matt. 7:16. We CAN'T go around saying “Well, the Lord knows my heart”. These words justify nothing. The content of the heart is expressed by the body and there are many things that are born therein - Jesus said: “That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,.....All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” - Mark 7:20-23. The Lord knows us by our fruits, the things we do by faith in His Word.
If you are religious (in churches of men), you cannot be a Christian, as the Word states - “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” - James 1:26-27. The “Church” is in your heart, and it does not mean a building or group fellowship. A social church (by works) is not Christianity. All religions want to keep you busy with works (fasting, sacraments, church traditions, cleaning their altars and buildings, keeping of holy days, even Holidays, etc.) they may sound good according to man’s ways, but doing these works is for self righteousness, phoney, not of the Word, and all are unfruitful works of darkness. Every religion, tradition and teaching of man is contrary to the Word of God, and is Anathema. Man is not justified by works - “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”- Gal. 2:16. “Faith” is what the Creator requires of us. “Works” is what those (religious people in churches) of God’s creation require, as a demonstration of the “faith” that is being professed by those who SAY that they believe God, but in Spirit they know not the Lord or what His Word even teaches.
The condition of our heart (spiritual) is demonstrated by our fruits according to His Word, for the “fruit of the Spirit” is: “....love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: ....If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” - Gal. 5:22, 25. The truth of His Word does not change to fit our path, our method, means, or way of thinking. Our heart must NOT be like those who go around saying that they believe in Jesus and frequently speak about their “heart”, attempting to explain about THEIR religion that they “feel” in their hearts, and almost always touch their chest where their physical heart is located. Do you understand that doing the Lord’s Will cannot be based on man’s “feelings”? “...For the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth;” Read Genesis 8:21 in the Old Testament History. There were many whose hearts were not right with the Lord, those described in the Bible like Simon the sorcerer. He wanted power to lay hands on people that they might receive the Holy Ghost - “But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.” - Read Acts 8, verses 9 through 22. Peter also told Simon that he was in the bond of iniquity and that he should repent of his wickedness and pray God that his heart may be forgiven. There are also many today whose hearts are not right with the Lord, whose hearts carry iniquity - they too must repent of their sin. We must be obedient to His Word and believe with our hearts that the Lord has given us truth according to His written Word - “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul:....” - Acts 4:32.
You can’t say “It’s OK, the Lord knows my heart”. It just won’t work. You cannot play games with the Lord. There is only one way - HIS! And His Way is well written in the Bible, and your heart must be in harmony with His Word. In the Proverbs of Solomon we see that “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.”- Prov. 21:2. Read all of Proverbs 21, it’s a very good lesson for all of us, in that it shows us how easy it is to fall into the trap of “self-righteousness”. We can either serve the Lord, or self. There are some who attempt to justify their false beliefs or teachings of man - but they are simply misguided in their self righteous ways. Always remember, the Lord is not a respecter of persons. “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.” - Acts 10:34,35.
Your heart is what determines your character before the Lord...it’s your center of life as He guides you each day, and it can and does control your tongue, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. - Matt. 15:18. What you speak out of your mouth is from your heart. There is a prayer quoted in Psalms that says: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” There must be a spiritual cleansing of the heart, a spiritual renewal, one that is steadfast, in order to follow His ways in the Bible. Our hearts must be contrite and broken so that the Holy Spirit is able to do His work in us. We must come before Him with a heart of repentance because we love Jesus and desire to follow Him. We must also desire to rid ourselves of all the ways and practices of the world. Some of those practices are of religion and men’s traditions, and these things cannot make our beliefs righteous unto the Lord. We are not under the law, but are saved by Grace - “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” - Romans 11:6.
Keep in mind, ones heart can be wrong or misguided by Satan and the world of carnal ordinances. These days are not much different then when the Jews had their ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. There are many hearts misguided by their religious beliefs, such as nuns, priests, monks, bishops, pope, the TV evangelists, preachers who preach lies from their pulpits, the Jews, all religions, etc. They believe they are all right, but they have been misguided by self righteous, religious people - such as the Catholic, Jehovah Witness, Latter Day Saints, Mormon, Christian Scientist, Hindu, Buddhism and many other religious cults. They have all forgotten one thing, - “Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us....How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” - Heb. 9:11, 12, 14. Our hearts will be judged by the Lord according to His truth, His way of life in Christ, and again, not by what we think. A right heart, that being which is in Christ, will only stick to the truth of what the Word says. If Christ truly lives in our hearts, then we must make sure we have the right Christ, the One of the Word and not Antichrist of the Catholic and other false religions. Remember, the Word tells us of many Antichrists that shall rise - “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now are there many Antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.” - I John 2:18.
A right heart is one that is right with the Word and is guided by the Holy Spirit - “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Rom. 5:5 - “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement....and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. - Rom. 5:11, 15.
Now, there’s Satan, always lurking around the corner, waiting to deceive one’s heart with all the carnal facts of life which absolutely have nothing to do with faith. But, Faith is beyond reason, and is a hope when all else fails, it’s like a miracle, something supernatural, it is of the Lord by the Holy Spirit, and when you have it you will have a peace within you like none other you have ever known. It is not of human understanding, it has no history, custom or tradition, it is from the Holy Spirit, a truth from the Lord Himself. Read this Scripture over and over and see what the Lord has given you - “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” - Gal. 2:20.
Our hearts are fed by soul and spirit, the soul and spirit are fed by the Word in faith, these elements of truth are fed by the Holy Spirit, and none of these facts are from the carnal self, a man or religion. There is no feeling involved in these facts of belief, they are spiritually discerned through the influence of the Holy Spirit. Our hearts should never be controlled by the following: Tradition, religions of men, so called “holy men”, self appointed preachers, canonized saints of religion, etc. According to the Word of God, all Christians are called “saints” because they are sanctified in Christ Jesus. Now, read this carefully - “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:27), The word “saints” in the above Scripture, does NOT mean “Catholic, Lutheran, or Orthodox saints”. The word “saints” in the above Scripture means US, you (if you know the true Jesus) and I, and all others who know and live Jesus Christ. The Word also says: “Salute every saint in Christ Jesus.” - Col. 4:21. These words, simply put, mean: greet your fellow laborers in Christ, and that’s what a “saint” is, a fellow laborer in Christ, one who follows and lives the Word of God.
If you tell me that you have NOT repented of your sin, believed on, or know the true Christ Jesus, then you are SPIRITUALLY DEAD, for out of your own heart you have spoken and are condemned, and “religion” cannot substitute anything to gain your salvation, neither by their works, your works, or even their membership’s prayers, for a hard heart is an impenitent heart and you will perish. If you have no truth in you, no understanding, no spiritual healing, no signs of knowledge of Jesus Christ, then you are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin in your heart. From our heart come our words and actions. If they are evil words and actions, they come from an evil heart, but if they are good words and actions, they come from a good heart. It is by our actions and words which come out of us that we will be judged - “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment - Matt. 12:36 and “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” - 2 Cor. 5:10. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" - Luke 6:45-46 and read vs. 47 through 49.
The Lord said: “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience." - Luke 8:15. Only the Holy Spirit knows the hearts of true believers, they must study to show themselves approved, and live the Word in their heart, always being a good steward of the Word.
Please be advised that every answer to every problem or question that you have, whether about the past, present, or future, is written in the Word of God, the Bible. It is all you will ever need. If you know Jesus or want to know Him, read His Word, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you (He will), then live it everyday for a totally complete and fulfilled life in Jesus Christ which is of the utmost happiness. If you have a right heart, it will be ONE with Christ and you will be not ashamed “...because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” - Rom. 5:5 (Also read 1 Peter 3:15), then you will understand the total purpose that God so designed for each of us to spend an eternity with our Creator. It’s up to you, and you only, to make that free will choice of accepting Christ into your heart according to His will, then you can say: “Jesus knows my heart” and it will truly be a right heart according to His Word. Hide the Word in your heart, then out of your mouth you will speak the oracles of the Lord and it will be a good thing that the heart be established with grace: (Heb. 13:9).
