God's Sword of Truth - The Word
WARFARE AGAINST:The World....JAMES 4:4...."Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." I JOHN 2:15-17...."Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."EQUIPMENT FOR A CHRISTIAN ARMY:
The Flesh....GAL. 5:17-21...."For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like; of the which I shall tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."
Satan....I PETER 5:8,9..."Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world."
Evil Men....II TIMOTHY 3:8...."Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth; men of corrupt minds, reprobates concerning the faith."
False Teachers....JUDE 3,4...."Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certainly men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God unto lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."
Spiritual Wickedness....EPHES. 6:12...."For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
Vain Philosophy....COL. 2:8...."Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."Sufficient for Total War....EPHES. 6:12-17....and....I THESS. 5:8...."But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation."THE SOLDER IN CHRIST'S ARMY MUST:
Spiritual in Nature....II COR. 10:3,4...."For thought we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
Sharper than any Sword....HEBREWS 4:12...."For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."Enlist or Join....MATT. 28:18-20...."And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven, and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you, always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."JESUS CHRIST, THE CAPTAIN OF THE CHRISTIAN ARMY IS:
Obey....II COR. 10:5,6...."Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; and having a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."
Please Captain....II TIMOTHY 2:4...."No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
Use Discipline.... I COR. 9:25-27...."And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as ones that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."
Use His Armour Expertly....EPHESIANS 6:13-17..."Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"
Endure Hardship....II TIMOTHY 2:3...."Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."
Show Courage....II TIMOTHY 4:7-18...."I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me; for Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee; for he is profitable to me for the ministry. And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil; the Lord reward him according to his works; of whom be thou ware also, for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me; I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Fight Hard....I TIM. 6:12...."Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
Be Pure....I PETER 2:11,12...."Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having your conversation honest among the Gentiles; that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation."
Be Alert....I PETER 5:8...."Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
Be Faithful....I TIM. 1:18-20...."This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck, of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme."Perfect....HEBREWS 2:10...."For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings."
Pure....HEBREWS 7:26...."For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens."
Powerful....II THESS. 2:8...."And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming."
